Python is NOT supported on Visual Studio for Mac.
The defaultencoding shouldn't affect here. I had a similar problem and for me the solution was to check the Escape non-ASCII input option in Terminal > Preferences > Settings > Advanced. Unicode in Python 3¶ The “string” object is unicode. Py3 has two distinct concepts: “text” – uses the str object (which is always unicode!) “binary data” – uses bytes or bytearray; Everything that’s about text is unicode.
